Tumbleweed Connection
1981 pressing. "Tumbleweed Connection" is the third studio album by English singer-songwriter Elton John, released on October 30, 1970. The album's lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin, Elton John's long-time collaborator. The theme of the album is heavily influenced by American West and country rock, despite John and Taupin being British. Unlike many of Elton John's other albums, "Tumbleweed Connection" did not produce any hit singles, but it was well-received critically and is often considered one of his finest works. The album's sound is a blend of rock, country, and Americana, showcasing Taupin's storytelling prowess and John's diverse musical talents.

The album cover, photographed by David Larkham and featuring the interior of the Empress of Little Rock train station, complements its rustic and Western themes. Notable tracks include "Ballad of a Well-Known Gun," "Country Comfort," and "Burn Down the Mission," each painting vivid pictures of frontier life and struggles. The absence of chart-topping singles did not hinder the album's success, as it reached No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 5 on the US Billboard 200. "Tumbleweed Connection" remains a significant entry in Elton John's discography, demonstrating his and Taupin's ability to create a cohesive and storytelling-driven album experience.
