"The Dock Of The Bay" Is A Posthumous Album By The American Soul Singer Otis Redding, Released On February 23, 1968, Just Three Months After His Death In A Plane Crash. The Album Was Produced By Steve Cropper, Redding's Longtime Collaborator And Guitarist For The Stax Records House Band Booker T. & The M.G.'s.

The Title Track, "(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay," Was Recorded Just Days Before Redding's Death And Was Released As A Single In January 1968. The Song Became A Huge Commercial Success, Reaching Number One On Both The Billboard Hot 100 And R&B Charts.

The Album Was A Compilation Of Singles And Previously Unreleased Tracks That Redding Recorded Between 1965 And 1967. It Was The First Posthumous Album Released By Stax Records And Became A Critical And Commercial Success, Helping To Cement Redding's Legacy As One Of The Greatest Soul Singers Of All Time.

In Addition To The Title Track, The Album Includes Such Classic Redding Songs As "I Love You More Than Words Can Say," "Let Me Come On Home," And "The Huckle-Buck."

"The Dock Of The Bay" Has Since Been Regarded As One Of The Greatest Albums Of All Time And Is Often Cited As A Landmark In Soul Music. It Was Inducted Into The Grammy Hall Of Fame In 1998.
