The Art Of Falling Apart
1983 2LP Original With Inner Sleeve. Plus Bonus EP With "Martin" And "Hendrix Medley." "The Art of Falling Apart," released in 1983, is the second studio album by British synthpop duo Soft Cell, following their successful debut album, "Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret." This album showcases the band's darker and more introspective side, diverging from the upbeat and commercially friendly sound of its predecessor. The duo, composed of Marc Almond and David Ball, explores themes of psychological turmoil, societal disillusionment, and personal introspection, enveloped in their signature electronic soundscapes.

The album was recorded at The Marcadet in Paris and produced by Mike Thorne, who also worked on their debut album. Notable tracks include "Where the Heart Is" and "Numbers," both of which exemplify the band's ability to blend catchy melodies with haunting lyricism. The album's title track, "The Art of Falling Apart," features an extended version on the cassette release, offering an immersive experience into the duo's atmospheric and experimental tendencies.

Although it did not achieve the same commercial success as their first album, "The Art of Falling Apart" is often praised for its artistic ambition and emotional depth. It captures the early 1980s post-punk and new wave zeitgeist, maintaining a cult following among fans of the era.
