Allman Brothers Band
The band quickly gained a following with their blend of southern rock, blues, and jazz, and they released their first album, "The Allman Brothers Band," in 1969. They followed this up with "Idlewild South" in 1970, which included the hit single "Midnight Rider."
In March 1971, the Allman Brothers Band performed a series of concerts at the Fillmore East in New York City, which were recorded for a live album. The band's performances at the Fillmore East were legendary, and the resulting album, "The Allman Brothers Band At Fillmore East," is widely considered one of the greatest live albums of all time.
The album was a commercial success, reaching #13 on the Billboard 200 chart and selling over a million copies. It includes standout tracks like "Statesboro Blues," "Whipping Post," and "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed."
Sadly, tragedy struck the Allman Brothers Band just a few months after the release of At Fillmore East, when Duane Allman was killed in a motorcycle accident. The band continued to perform and release music, but never reached the same level of commercial success as they did with this iconic live album.
