Legalize It
Rare & Collectible Vinyl Records
Tosh, Peter
The Album's Title Track, "Legalize It," Became An Anthem For The Legalization Of Marijuana And The Decriminalization Of Cannabis Use In Jamaica. The Song's Lyrics Are A Call For The Government To Legalize Marijuana And End The Persecution Of Those Who Use And Sell The Drug. Tosh's Advocacy For Marijuana Legalization Made Him A Controversial Figure In Jamaica And Brought Him Into Conflict With The Authorities.
Despite Its Controversial Subject Matter, "Legalize It" Was A Commercial Success And Helped Establish Tosh As A Solo Artist. The Album Also Features Socially Conscious Songs Like "Burial" And "Igziabeher (Let Jah Be Praised)," Which Address Issues Of Poverty, Oppression, And Spiritual Liberation.
Tosh Continued To Release Music Throughout The 1970s And 1980s, Including The Classic Album "Equal Rights" In 1977. He Was Tragically Murdered In 1987 At The Age Of 42. "Legalize It" Remains A Landmark Album In The History Of Reggae Music And A Powerful Statement Of Defiance And Liberation.
