Brazilian Knights And A Lady
1988 Japanese Promo Label With Obi. NM-. Recorded Live At Bill Graham's Wiltern Theater, Los Angeles. “The So-Called "Knights" Are The Brilliant Singer-Songwriters Ivan Lins And Djavan, Both Of Whom Were Busy Riding The Mid-'80s Brazilian Wave Into America At The Time Of This Jazzvisions Concert In The Wiltern Theatre In Los Angeles. The "Lady" Is Patti Austin, Who Sits In With The Lins Band On Just Two Tracks. While Incorporating Elements Of Jazz And Soft-Rock In His Tropicalismo Backup Band, Lins' Haunting Wail And Distinctive Songwriting Are All His Own, And He Offers Stunning Performances Of His Unusual, Gorgeously Tense "Antes Que Seja Tarde" And The Revolving Licks Of His Near-Standard "Dinorah, Dinorah." Djavan Offers Considerable Contrast To Lins With His Deeper, More Virile Voice, An Often Distinctive Loping Rhythmic Manner, And A More Percussive Band, Though He Could Have Picked More Striking Material From His Song Bag (Best Are "Samurai" And "Sina," The Latter Which The Manhattan Transfer Transformed Into "Soul Food To Go"). In This Company, Austin's Conventional Soul Strains Are Outclassed. Like The Rest Of The Series, This Was Issued On CD, LP, Cassette, Laserdisc And VHS Video.” AMG - Richard S. Ginell.
