"Blows Against The Empire" is a concept album that tells the story of a group of people who hijack a spaceship to start a new life on a utopian planet. The album is considered a groundbreaking work in the development of progressive and psychedelic rock.

The album features collaborations with a number of notable musicians, including David Crosby, Graham Nash, and Jerry Garcia. It was produced by Kantner and Grace Slick, who also sang on the album. "Blows Against The Empire" features a mix of soft acoustic passages and hard rock sections, with complex vocal harmonies and intricate instrumental arrangements.

It was nominated for a Hugo Award in the Best Dramatic Presentation category, the first time a record album had been nominated for this science fiction award.
